Skill 1A
Counting and Number Recognition: Numbers 0 through 5

The first marking period of Grade 1 (first 9 weeks) typically reviews math skills taught in Kindergarten.   One of the major math skills taught in Kindergarten is simply counting to 20 or 30 (most schools aim for 30) and understanding the value of these numbers.  This skill should be taught in small sequential steps: 0-5, 6-10, etc. Teaching smaller groups of numbers greatly increases the efficiency of learning.  Here, we see if your student can count objects up to 5 and then choose the correct number symbol representing the answer (which is easier to do).  If there is any hesitation with counting any of the soccer balls below, you should click the "WORKSHEET" button for further practice.  As with all our math skills, the text in red is what you would say to the student.

Count the soccer balls and tell how many.
Pick the correct answer from the numbers to the right of the pictures.
