Skill 2A Adding 3 Numbers Vertical Adding 3 single digit numbers is more difficult than adding two single digit numbers since the answer can be higher than 18 (the highest number encountered in typical two digit addition problems). When adding 3 single digit numbers, the student needs to first get the answer to the top two numbers (or later the 2 numbers that equal 10), and then start counting from that answer and add the last number. Eventually, we want to get to the point where the student can add the top two numbers mentally, get the answer, and then use fingers to add the bottom number.

these problems mentally or rewrite them to add on a separate paper. |
